Through my most recent years of growing up, I have become more appreciative of the things I may have taken for granted. Take drinking water, for example. 1.1 billon people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water, which consequently accounts for 2.2 million deaths annually. We often forget how lucky we are, after all, turning a tap requires little effort – and for that, we should be grateful. Anyway, moving on - I recently stumbled upon LifeStraw, an awesome device that filters contaminated water, thus providing the user with clean drinking water. Although LifeStraw is a relatively old invention, it has and continues to save lives across many developing countries. More on the reverse.

What a cool concept! “LIFX is the smartest light bulb you've ever experienced.” Let me shed some light on how (see what I did there?). Imagine being able to control all of the bulbs in your house via your iPhone/Android device. In fact, let’s go one better: imagine being able to control all of the wifi-enabled, energy efficient, multi-coloured bulbs in your house via your iPhone/Android device, so that you can create an ambience to suit your mood? Oh, and did I mention that this snazzy bulb can last up to 25 years? Amazing, right? More on the reverse.

You should all know by now that I’m an advocate of eco-friendly initiatives. I have covered various green products/projects in the past, but none have come at a more suitable time than the one I’m about to present. Clearly capitalising on the hype surrounding Apple’s latest creation, the iPhone Mini Cinema accessory turns the handset into just that – a mini cinema! How? Well, by pairing a large magnifying pane with a gramophone-style speaker horn, the iPhone’s screen becomes magnified, while its speakers become amplified. Pretty cool, huh? More on the reverse.

The time has come. Following months of speculation, Apple will (almost certainly) unveil their next-gen iPhone.  Last Tuesday, the tech giant emailed out press invitations to today’s ‘special event’, and if these are anything to go by, then the 6th iteration of the smartphone will (again, almost certainly) be named ‘iPhone 5’. As you may know, my Blackberry Torch is in tatters and with 37 days left until I’m eligible for an upgrade, this event is a big deal for me. But, it’s not because I’m a fan boy - I only own one Apple product (iPod Touch). Instead, it’s because most of my day-to-day responsibilities require me to be in tune with social media, across multiple channels. I’m intrigued to see how well the ‘iPhone 5’ will cater for my needs. More on the reverse.

There was a time where Nokia dominated the mobile phone market. However, today that’s not the case. Over the past decade, the Finnish communications company have seen their monopolistic grip weaken as more competitive rivals, such as Apple and Samsung, enter the market. Unlike them, Nokia failed to foresee the shift in consumer behaviour. With the advent of social media (not to mention, we now have busier lives), our reliance on mobile technology has grown exponentially over the past 10 years and as a result, basic phones made way for smartphones. Nokia’s failure to cater for this demand in new technology became their demise. More on the reverse.

If you have been following us since Blogybuilding.com, then you’ll know that we love a good giveaway. However, since we’re no longer a health and fitness blog per se, we began pencilling ideas for what would make an awesome prize and, moreover, reflect that we are now a “lifestyle and culture news-hub.” The ASUS Transformer Pad is a beautiful piece of machinery. It’s a hybrid, meaning that it’s both a tablet and a PC. How? Well the tablet can attach/detach to and from the docking station, which offers a full QWERTY keyboard and touchpad. More on the reverse.
